Michael Cherman founded Chinatown Market in 2016, drawing on his previous experience with brands like ICNY and contributing to Kith's iconic box logo. Inspired by New York City's Canal Street bootleg culture, Chinatown Market embodies a vibrant aesthetic, symbolized by its signature smiley face logo.

The brand's streetwear identity is characterized by whimsical graphics and bold colors, reflecting the spirit of its inspiration. The smiley face logo, reminiscent of the classic New York shopping bag motif, adorns a range of accessories, from basketballs to bags, in an official collaboration with The Smiley Company. Chinatown Market aims to spread positivity through it's logo and graphic designs.

Unlike many streetwear labels, Chinatown Market emphasizes inclusivity over exclusivity, limited releases to foster a sense of community where everyone can participate.
